Update to Pupils and Parents: week beginning 13.09.21

Dear Pupils and Parents,

Against a backdrop of rising Covid-19 case numbers we are working to keep Mackie Academy as safe a learning environment as we can but can only do so with support from yourselves.  All mitigations that are in place are working well and, alongside this, common sense is important when making decisions.  All relevant information about how the school is operating can be found in our Recovery Guide.

The information around testing and close contacts has changed and you can find all the latest information on our Covid-19 page on the Pupil and Parent Information Site.  As a school we would encourage pupils to continue with Lateral flow testing on a twice-weekly basis but please remember that if you have any of the classic or extended symptoms you are now recommended to get a PCR test.  All information related to this is on the page above.

The dates for the Reporting Calendar to parents will be available on the website by the end of this week.  We will be maintaining virtual Parents Evenings going forwards until further notice.

Thank you to everyone who attended the Parent Council AGM and the first meeting of the new academic year takes place on Tuesday, 21st August 2021 when the new Chair and Vice Chair will be voted in.  Further information can be found here.  Any member of the Parent Forum who wants to consider joining the Parent Council are more than welcome to attend as an observer before making a final decision.

There are several new announcements on our School News page including:

  • Learning Centre Homework Club
  • Extra-Curricular Sporting Activities

Finally, this Friday S1, S2 and S3 pupils are being asked to take part in the Mackie Mile to raise money for local charities.  As we cannot do our Sponsored Walk for the second year running, we still want to give our younger year groups the opportunity to get out and about whilst hopefully raising a good sum of money for local groups.  Buckets will be out and about to aid collections and we hope the sun will shine for us.

Take care everyone,

Louise Moir
