Final Update of the Academic Year 2020-21 to Pupils and Parents at Mackie Academy

Dear Pupils and Parents,

The final week of the summer term is upon us and what a year this has been.  I want to start by saying a massive thank you to our school and local community for all the positive support shown over the past year; it has been a team effort and we could not have done it without each and every one of you.  As the summer holidays approach, I know people need time to recharge the batteries and that is what we will do so that we are ready to welcome our young people back on Tuesday, 17th August 2021.

Today, our Senior Phase pupils will receive their provisional results ahead of confirmation of these by the SQA on Tuesday, 10th August 2021. The latest updates regarding the SQA Alternative Certification Model 2021 can be found here; for any pupils not in school their results will be posted out to them.  If anyone has any questions about results the school will be available to answer them until Friday, 25th June 2021 and from Tuesday, 10th August 2021.  In addition to this support is available for pupils and their destinations next year from our colleagues at Skills Development Scotland and RGU.  Further information about these services can be found here.

The Pupil and Parent Information Site has new updates this week about:

  • Our PE Facilities upgrade starting in the summer holidays
  • Aberdeenshire Council’s Mental Health Services available to pupils and families over the summer holidays
  • Police Scotland Bike Register Scheme (happening at lunchtime on Wednesday, 23rd June 2021 at Mackie Academy)

Additional information on Free School Meals and Uniform Grants from Aberdeenshire Council is also available to support families.  We are also offering a Uniform Exchange this summer and further information about how you can donate to this and benefit from it can be found on our School News page.

A reminder to pupils and parents that Lateral Flow Test kits are available from the school so that pupils have sufficient supply so that they can test themselves prior to the return to school.  Further information about how this is working at Mackie Academy can be found here.  For pupils starting with us in S1 in August 2021 kits will be distributed to primary schools this week.

On Wednesday, 23rd June 2021 nationally it is Thank a Teacher day.  I hope that members of our school community can take the time to think of an individual who has helped them over the past year and to whom a “thank you” would mean the world.  You can find more information about how to do this at:

As we head towards the summer holidays, we may not have our traditional events, such as Sports Day and Prizegiving, but we are hoping to be able to do these during our first term back in 2021-22 even if it is on a reduced scale.  However, that does not stop us celebrating the achievements of this year and this week has been no exception.  It was great to welcome members of Horizon and other community groups to the school this week to celebrate several different community projects which are co-ordinated around Stonehaven’s Coastal Town entry for Beautiful Scotland 2021 this year.  I was also delighted to hear about two of our musicians who have continued to delight people with their talents. Magnus in S1 was very successful in his piano classes at the Aberdeen and North East Music Festival last week where he won two classes and was given a special mention in a third. Secondly, Archie in S4 made a local lady’s day for her 90th birthday when he played his bagpipes to celebrate the special occasion.  Well done to both and all our young folk who continue to make positive contributions to their local area.

Finally, no end of term would be complete without our leavers and this year we say goodbye to four members of staff.  More information about these and our new starts for August can be found here.

I hope everyone has a safe summer holiday and I look forward to welcoming everyone back in August 2021.
