Dear Pupils and Parent(s),

I know that whilst lockdown continues many of our young folk and families have been actively involved in their local communities to ensure that our more vulnerable citizens are well cared for.  As Head Teacher of Mackie Academy these stories are the highlight of my day and remind me of what a great school and local community we are part of.  This week, the school was able to make a charitable donation to the Aberdeenshire South Food Bank and we received a very kind email back from those involved to say how much it was appreciated and how the monies would be put to good use.  It is good to see that even in our current remote locations we, as a school, can still have a positive impact within our community.

The Mackie Academy Covid-19 site has now had its weekly update and we continue to add resources and relevant information for you which hopefully makes things a little easier in terms of having only one key site to visit.  Thanks to those parents who gave some feedback around finding new information on the site.  What we have done is to try and signpost this at the top of each page so that you know what to look for.  We hope this helps.

As we said last week our Parent Feedback form is now ready to go and we would be grateful if parents could take the time to respond to this over the next week or so.  The deadline for submissions is 1st June 2020 so that we can use the feedback overall to inform our next stage of planning as part of the recovery phase for Education and Mackie Academy.  You can access the form here and thank you for taking the time to do so.

A reminder that the next Parent Council meeting takes place on Wednesday, 27th May 2020 at 19.00.  If, as part of the wider Parent Forum, you have any questions or issues you wish to raise please contact the Parent Council on Mackiepc@hotmail.co.uk  If you wish to join the Parent Council as an observer you can also do so by making a request through the email contact.

On a good note, I am please to say that progress at a national and local authority level has been made on enabling schools to access Google Meet for face-to-face live learning between staff and pupils.  We are hopeful that we will be getting further guidance on this over the next two weeks which will allow us to plan for this as part of our blended learning offer in the near future.

Finally, following the First Minister’s statement to Parliament yesterday there is now a pathway forwards for all involved in education in Scotland to plan for the return to school on 11th August 2020.  This is a week earlier than what was originally stated for Aberdeenshire in 2020 but we are looking forward to the “new norm”.  In the coming weeks we will be updating parents on what that looks like and I would urge you to read Laurence Findlay’s correspondence on the Mackie Academy Covid-19 site as a response to these latest developments.

As always, Mackie Academy can be contacted from 09.00 – 15.00 Monday to Friday on 01569 690550 where any queries you may have will be directed to the relevant person or people to be answered.  You can also use the contact form on our website too if you wish.  In addition to this for any personal concerns you can contact your child’s PT Pupil Support and Attainment (Guidance) as follows:
