Broad General Education

Curriculum Students will continue to work on similar courses to those being followed in S1 and S2. They would progress through the CfE Levels as their skills grew.

All students would continue to work on the 3 core areas of Reading, Writing, and Talking / Listening.  This would involve reading novels and plays, newspaper articles and poetry. It would involve the study of film and of texts in varying formats.

Methodology  Through a study of language, literature, media, and the spoken word, learners will develop their skills in reading, writing, listening and talking. There will be class lessons, group work, individual work on books or language being studied, and individual research, preparation and reading. Pupils will be expected to undertake assignments in groups, at class level and individually. A considerable amount of individual research and study will be expected.

Senior Phase

Curriculum  National 4 is made up of four Units.  The four Units, taken together, include the four language skills of listening and talking, reading and writing. A Literacy award would be included as a core area of the course, assessed by one of the internally assessed units. There is no end exam.

National 5 is made up of two mandatory Units.  The two Units, taken together, include the four language skills of listening and talking, reading and writing. There is also an end examination

Methodology  Pupils will be expected to undertake assignments in groups, at class level and individually. A considerable amount of individual research and study will be expected, especially to complete the Folio or Assignment.
