We have recently been notified that a team of 4 promising badminton players from Mackie Academy, Stonehaven, have been selected to represent Scotland at the forthcoming International School Sports Federation European championships (www.isfsports.org) to be held in Clermont-Ferrand, France.  This is a schools event where school teams in various sporting disciplines are invited to compete on a European stage.  Each event is held in a different country, France being the venue for the 2017 badminton event.

Mackie Academy has a very long history of talented badminton players with their teams seldom featuring out with the top 3 in the country.  They have already had 5 players represent Scotland at the annual four nations quadrangular where Scotland has been triumphant from 2012 to 2016 and were runners up in 2011.

This opportunity is a once in a lifetime chance for these players to compete on the European Stage. In order to convert this opportunity into a reality we are reaching out to local companies to help fund and support this trip.  The players involved have shown great commitment and dedication to the sport and would greatly appreciate any support you may be able to offer.  Our initial target to fund the trip has been estimated at £6,000 however this may very well increase as fuel and flight costs change.  The delegation will consist of 4 players, one coach, one umpire and a head delegation, 7 people in total which is the minimum requirement.

The children intend to fund raise by way of various events between now and June 2017 however any contribution toward the cost of the trip would be warmly welcomed.  The players will be provided with kits to be worn throughout the event and they would be happy to add any kind of company logo to advertise the support they have received.

During the trip the players will be invited to promote their country and also the area they represent.  The children are very proud to be part of the Mackie Academy team and are delighted to be representing their country and particularly the north east of Scotland.  They will certainly be encouraged to ensure credit is given to all who have supported them and made this dream a reality.

If there is any possibility that you could offer any type of support please contact Angela Waite, Physical Education Department, Mackie Academy in the first instance or contact Annette Leith, head of delegation, at Annetteleith@uwclub.net.
